Jobs Description

1. Primary Relation 1.1 This position participates with the School SP, Executive Director, Directors of all departments and other management staff in ensuring it’s effective operation. 2. Rights 2.1 Employees of Horizon International Academy are offered equal rights in their employment to express their opinions without being classified into any role. 2.2 Employees are encouraged to give suggestions and evaluation to their managers to eliminate unfairness, this is aimed at enhancing the work environment. 2.3 Employees will abide by the law and will not be involved with political issues. In case of violation, the school will not be responsible for the consequences. 3. Responsibilities 3.1 Teachers of all grades are expected to assume normal duties of regular teacher, grading paper, preparing lesson plans, etc. 3.2 Teachers must provide appropriate office hour availability for students for educational counseling, academic counseling, etc. 3.3 Teachers must be punctual and check the students’ attendance daily. 3.4 Teachers paid by fixed salary or wage have to wear an ID card before entering the school premise. ID cards are provided to teachers free of charge. In the case, the ID card is lost or damaged; teachers have to pay $1 to make new ones. However, if a teacher wants to change card string or expired card, it will be free of charge. 3.5 All teachers should: 3.6 Encourage students to come to class every day i. Build positive classroom environments so that students feel compelled to come to class ii. Continue teaching even if the majority of students are absent. 3.7 All teachers are required to attend the regular staff meetings as asserted in any memo. Meetings are important to the functionality of the school. In the event that a teacher is absent from a meeting, he/she must inform his/her manager and should request a copy of meeting notes from his co-workers. 3.8 Teachers are required to join occasional events, which include, but are not limited to extra-curricular activities, workshop, etc. Teachers are highly encouraged to participate. However, in the event that a teacher cannot join, please notify the manager of unavailability. If teachers want to create their own workshop or activities to share experiences, knowledge and skills, we would appreciate and welcome them. 3.9 The teaching hours may vary depending on the given assignment. Leaving prior to scheduled times will result in verbal warning. 3.10 Our school has zero tolerance with regards to weapons and drugs. Teachers, who are in possession of weapons or drugs or who are suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be dismissed immediately. 3.11 Sexual harassment from teacher-to-student or teacher-to-teacher is not tolerated. Teachers who subject other teachers or students to a pattern of unwelcome sexual jokes or comments engaging in illegal sexual harassment will be terminated immediately. 3.12 Kindly park vehicle properly in the correct and proper rows at the parking area and in the way the guards instruct you. 3.13 Teachers should turn off phones or put them into vibration mode during teaching and meetings, or on certain other occasions 3.14 Dress professionally (from Monday to Friday, all male teachers must wear ties). Always keep your body smell good both in the class and outside the class. Your dress manner will really affect the day you have. The students will have positive responses to professionally-dressed teachers. This is the first phase for effective classroom management. Teachers should set a good role model for students. 3.15 Verify attendance procedures and be accurate in the reporting of absence and tardiness. 3.16 Teachers are required to check student attendance lists, mark the names of students who are absent in the register, and give it to the admin team so that the school can keep track of absent students and call their parents. 3.17 Make sure textbooks, worksheets, equipment, and other teaching materials are ready before the class begins. 3.18 Familiarize themselves with routine procedures, such as class schedule, referring students to the office, lunch times, and disaster/emergency drill procedures. 3.19 All teachers are responsible for the proper use and care of classroom books and materials. 3.20 Never administer any form of corporal punishment; never leave a classroom unattended; never leave the whiteboard messy after teaching. 3.21 Warmly greet the students when you enter the classroom. Make sure that they enter the class in a quiet and orderly manner. 3.22 Make sure your students know your name clearly. 3.23 Take attendance each period (8:00 am and 2:00 pm) and, if required, observe seating charts. Announce the name of students whom you mark absent. This can encourage the students to follow your instructions. Be sure that you enforce classroom rules properly. 3.24 Try to follow the course outline you have organized as closely as possible. 3.25 Maintain good order and desirable learning conditions. You are a professional teacher, and the students should recognize your authority. Students should be under your supervision at all times. Please don’t allow any student to leave the classroom without permission. Never leave any student alone in the classroom. No student is allowed to leave the school grounds without the prior authorizations of Student Affairs Officers. Never allow students to go home for books, homework, etc. 3.26 School records are confidential and are treated in professional manner. Individuals, students, teachers and other school situations should not be discussed outside the school. 3.27 Be familiar with the disciplinary policy of the school. Follow an assertive disciplinary policy displayed in the classroom. Follow the designated plan accordingly. For severe discipline issues, refer the student(s) to the Studies Office, and/or Head of English. 3.28 Promptly inform of any accident to the your supervisor and HR Director. Give exact details and names of those involved, including witnesses. 3.29 Never release a student to another adult without written permission from the Studies Office. This necessary safeguard is to protect the students, the school and yourself. 3.30 Check the bell schedule to make sure that you release your students on time. You are accountable for keeping students in the classroom and thus maintain safe and orderly conditions for all. Refrain from dismissing students early for lunch or to go home early. Failure to do this may result in disciplinary action. Follow the established schedule precisely. 3.31 Teachers are required to give homework and return it, promptly, and corrected. Teachers should give at least 1 test, 1 quiz, and 4 homeworks per month. 3.32 Ask students to turn off their phones or put their phones on vibration mode. Please remember that teachers should be the students’ role model. 3.33 All teachers are responsible for the care and protection of any school property. Those found to be responsible for any damage shall take full responsibility for repairs or replacement. Any disputes shall be solved through legal action. 3.34 Teachers (who are free during the working hours “8:00-11:00 am & 2:00-5:00 pm”) are required to substitute for other teachers who are absent. If any teacher refuses to substitute, their salary will be deducted according to the proportion of their salary. 3.35 Carry out any other duties related to the post as directed by management.

Job Requirements: • Nationality: Foreign (Native Speaker) • Teaching certification from a recognized institution. • Strong knowledge in curriculum, pedagogy and assessments. • Minimum 3 years of working experience in education institutions. • Experience in teaching in an international setting is an advantage. • Experience in planning and delivering IEYC is an advantage.
